Contract Distilling & Custom Spirits Production

Reliable, Confidential Spirits Manufacturing for Growing Brands

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: What spirits can you distill?

A: Our TTB License (#GA-DSP-20007) allows us to distill any spirit. Bourbon, Rye, Gin, Vodka, Rum, Absinth, Liqueur… anything that is distilled.

Q: Can you provide R&D and proof-of-concept services?

A: Yes. In fact, we encourage brokers and private label owners to prove their product via R&D before entering the market. Our distilling hardware scales to meet you requirements but a solid base product is critical to grow your brand. However, if you have a proven recipe then lets expand your brand!

Q: What is your Minimum Order Quantity?

A: Zero. We have Zero minimum quantity requirements. We operate on a Time and Materials basis which helps you control costs as a small producer. We’ll do our best to elevate your brand but ultimately, we never have MOQ’s.

Q: What are the startup fees?

A: None. Unless you want our assistance to get your TTB DSP or GA DOR Brokers license. We operate on a Time & Materials model.

Q: I have an established COLA/FOLA. Who owns that Intellectual Property for my brand? Who owns the recipe?

A: The broker. We NEVER own the FOLA or recipe. We are required to submit a COLA for traceability requirements from the TTB. We’ll gladly sign your NDA stating our position if needed. Our interest is to grow your brand – not OWN the brand.

Q: What is your estimated all-in cost-per-bottle?

A: This is the most asked question we get and there is no single answer. Understand there are three primary factors influencing COGS: Hard-pack, Soft-pack and Overhead. Soft-pack is labor, liquid, excise taxes, storage. Hard-pack is bottle, labels, packaging. Overhead is marketing, licensing, insurance, permit fees, etc. Generally, a broker COGS per 750mL bottle for 4-6 year aged sourced-spirit may be in the $4-$6 range + hard-pack. For sourced vodka/GNS, $3-$5 + hard-pack. For craft gin/Bourbon/Rye, $6-$8 + hard-pack. For bespoke spirits $10-$15 incl/Hard pack.

Q: What is the difference between a Broker vs. a Private Label owner?

A: Simple – A broker has a TTB (Tax and Trade) Federal License and a GA DOR (Dept of Revenue) license. A ‘Private Label’ owner has no licenses and is typically not even required to have a GA business license. Generally speaking, a Broker has lower COGS than a Private Label owner, however a broker often has higher upfront costs.

Q: Does Lazy Guy offer storage and shipping services?

A: Yes – we can work with any logistics company to ship your products. Our storage space is limited and you want your product in a distributor warehouse where you realize depletions – not in storage at our warehouse.

Q: Do you offer custom recipe development?

A: Yes. If you’re looking for a custom whiskey or gin mash bill we have that expertise. We can accommodate and refine any recipe you desire. Understand that custom recipe develop comes at a cost with R&D. We can help you understand the cost as well as FOB/MSRP.

Q: Can I make money as a broker or private label owner?

A: Yes – but… are you invested in your brand? Do you understand your market? Do you have a unique offering? Can you differentiate your product? Do you have a confident pitch deck? Are you willing to promote your brand? Do you understand the difference between COGS and FOB? Can you speak to your depletion expectations? Can you fulfill your depletion requirements? Are you DTC or Intrastate? Do you understand bailment terms vs. N30? ….. Let us help you.
